Rick and Marilyn
Guitar and Song
''Rick and Marilyn' is a Guitar-Centric, Hippie-Folk-Rock duo out of Hudson, NY. Marilyn writes, sings, and plays acoustic rhythm guitar while Rick provides tasteful guitar accompaniment and amazing solos. Together they perform originals that have great melodies and memorable hooks along with an array of favorite classic folk/rock/country/blues hippie cover songs.
Guitarist Rick Warren, is influenced by many musicians, from Bach to (Jeff) Beck and beyond, all distilled into one unique approach to solo and accompaniment guitar. Some of the settings that Rick has played in include the improvisational duo ‘Guitars A Go Go’ with Sal (Spaghetti Eastern Music) Cataldi; ‘spaceheater’,a four piece psych-surf exploration of improvised rock and funk, and, of course the duo ‘Rick and Marilyn’. Past ventures have included the band ‘Clouds’ (Kingston), Blue Food (Woodstock), ‘Doc Horton and the Jay Street Band’ (Albany), and ‘The Magic Stones’ (Hudson). He has a reputation for giving the song exactly what it needs, telling ‘the rest of the story’ with his soulful, melodic solos and tasteful accompaniment.
Singer-songwriter Marilyn Miller was known for leading Open Jams at venues in Hudson for many years. These days, when not with Rick, you will find her performing solo, and with the loosely organized Hudson Busk in the Hudson streets. Her strengths lie in her powerful voice paired with a driving acoustic guitar and melodic arrangements of her own tunes and the covers she loves.
Rick and Marilyn are available to play your party, house concert, pub, restaurant, market, or event- You name it!
When the music calls, we will be there. :)
Spaceheater
Psych+Surf+Space Rock+Punk Jazz
Spaceheater is a quartet comprising four veteran Hudson Valley musicians: guitarists Rick Warren and Sal Cataldi, bassist Sean Allison and drummer April Daly Together, they put their effects-driven guitars, thumping bass and polyrhythmic drum assault to work on everything from the heaviest rock to jazz and blues to ambient and industrial sounds, in both originals and obscure covers. The latter spans from early Pink Floyd to electric-era Miles Davis to psych/garage classics like The Byrds’ “Eight Miles High” and Link Wray’s “Rumble.” The band regularly performs at popular Hudson Valley venues, including Colony Woodstock, Pearl Moon, and The Station Bar in Woodstock, The Tinker Street Tavern at the Bearsville Theater, West Kill Supply, Green Kill Sessions in Kingston, Snug Harbor in New Paltz, and many more.
Spaceheater is an appropriate name for the group as it was birthed during rehearsals in the winter months of 2021/22 at Kingston’s Green Kill art gallery. While jamming there, the group was warmed by space heaters whose fumes may have imbued their work with its unique, hallucinatory bend. Their sound combines the loose, meandering jams of “St. Stephen”-flavored Grateful Dead with the edgy prog/industrial/space-rock improvs of latter-day King Crimson and Krautrock. Hudson Valley One called the band: “A powerhouse of genre-defying sounds, blending heavy rock, jazz, blues ambient and industrial influences.” Kingston Wire recently described spaceheater’s work as “multi-chapter jams that unfold with headbang-able riffs in between spacey, free-form sections with ethereal textures.”

Both players invent from a broad palette of music and sound. Performances often elicit comments that describe Rick and Chuck as “musical twins from other mothers”.
